In case I don’t get a chance to blog again by midnight tonight…. “Happy New Years” or as we say “Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!!!” Our baby girl struggled with chronic lung disease after her premature birth. Also, Hawaii is putting a ban on most fireworks in 2011. Thus, we are expecting the island to look like a smoke-filled…
Sachie - I love the colors. very vivid. How do you get the background like that?
admin - Hi Sachie!!! I answered your question on facebook also but here’s a basic recap. You get a nice blurry background by having a shallow depth of field. The key way is to have a large aperture (or small F-stop number). Find the “A” mode on your camera and wheel the aperture to the smaller F-stop nubers. This one I probably had the F-stop around F2.8-F4.0 (I’m guessing…I’d have to look at my EXIF data). Really good lens have larger aperture capabilities (smaller F-stop numbers). I think my stock lens can’t get less than F5.
I also zoom in, a longer focal lens helps shallow the depth of field. And position wise, I got close to HB and the background was far away. Practice it!!! A blurred background makes HB the focus and it also just makes for a beautiful backdrop.
Scott - I love the way you captured LP and HB’s eyes. They look so vibrant and beautiful.
Nancy D Lakin - Keao,
I so love your skills & talent on capturing those darling and precious granddaughters of mine HB & LP. It brings tears to my eyes that I didnt stay long enough on my last trip. Won’t be back till March when LP will celebrate her 1st birthday. Thank you for your wonderful photos. Love & Prayers for you & family.
