The Wedding of Jen and Corey

Jen is Scott’s cousin.  They were actually friends first, having met while doing joint events with their churches.  Jen was at Hope Chapel Kapolei and Scott was at Hope Chapel Kaneohe Bay.  They didn’t realize they were related until they met up at a family event.  Jen and Corey met while working together at Sports Authority.  Love soon ensued and they found themselves planning an early spring wedding.  We were really touched when she asked Scott to marry them and asked if I would do the photographs.  It was a small, sweet wedding.  The ceremony was at Wahiawa Botanical Gardens.  I have never been there before and I didn’t even know that you could have weddings there.

I stopped by the girls hotel room to get some getting ready shots.  They were staying at Ko Olina.  It was probably the most calm I’ve seen any bridal party on the morning of.  The sisters were watching Dirty Jobs while they took their turn getting their hair and make-up done.  And then it was just a quick drive up to Wahiawa Botanical Gardens.  It was cloudy and drizzling everywhere on the island EXCEPT for Wahiawa.  Nothing but beautiful weather shone over the gardens.

The reception was an intimate luncheon at Gyotaku Restaurant in Pearl City.  I married a Japanese man so I know Japanese food, and this was amazing Japanese food.  I couldn’t get enough of the scrumptious food, I had to go up for seconds. So yummy.  And cupcakes!!! I love cupcakes.  I had to spend so much time editing the photos of the wedding cake and red velvet cupcakes that I even had to twitter that I NOW CRAVE CUPCAKES all the time!!!  I can’t look at the photos and not want to eat at least three.

Sneak Peek: Robyn’s Maternity Sesh

I always want to try out new places…but I still get a little nervous.  I like to be familiar with the location so I know what I’m working with and I have a game plan in mind before the couple even arrives.  Robyn wanted her maternity session on one of the beautiful beaches on the Marine Corps Base.  I have visited the base three times (once because I had my wedding reception there) and have never gone to the beaches, although I have heard that they are gorgeous.  I always try to scope out locations beforehand to be uber prepared so Robyn and I made plans to scout out beaches.  It is on a military base, so I couldn’t just swing on my free time even though it is just ten minutes from my house.  Unfortunately, we kept missing chances to meet up and then she came down with the cold so we just had to wing it on the day of her session.  They had a busy day so we were pressed for time when we met up at the base.  We decided to just stop at the first beach we hit before the afternoon light faded away.  It worked out perfectly.  I couldn’t have asked for a better location with great variety.  And the sun refused to leave so we even spent extra time getting bonus shots in.  Score!!!  And if you want to have a session at someplace completely different than the norm or just have any suggestions on unique locations, let me know!!

Here’s some sneak peeks from Ronnie and Robyn’s maternity session.

Robyn brought these adorable cards from her baby shower

I loved this wooden log we found and used.
